The main reason was to level out with America in the Arms Race. America already had missile bases on Turkey which was near to Russia so Russia put missiles on Cuba as it was in close range to America. :)
So that the USA would move its nuclear weapons away from the border of the USSR.
So they could attack the United States if necessary.
The Cuban missile crisis came to and end because Kennedy and Khrushchev made an agreement. In the agreement it stated that if Kennedy were to remove its naval blockade around Cuba and if it removes its missile bases in Turkey, Khrushchev would remove his missile bases from Cuba.
July 1962, Khrushchev secretly built 42 missile sites in Cuba.

In Cuba.
President Kennedy demanded that the Soviet Union remove the missile base from Cuba. He also ordered a US air and naval blockade of Cuba to prevent Soviet arms shipments from reaching Cuba. He prepared to invade Cuba in case Khrushchev did not withdraw his missiles. He made an agreement with Khrushchev at the last minute: Khrushchev agreed to remove the missiles from Cuba, ordered his ships to turn back to Soviet Union; Kennedy promised not to put missiles in Turkey, near the Soviet border. After this agreement Kennedy lifted the blockade and promised not to invade Cuba.
United States (President John F. Kennedy), Soviet Union (Premier Nikita Khrushchev), and Cuba (Fidel Castro)
Kennedy blamed Khrushchev for causing a threat to world peace due to the Soviet Union's placement of nuclear missiles in Cuba, as part of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. Kennedy saw this as a direct provocation and a violation of American security. He believed Khrushchev's actions escalated tensions between the two superpowers and had the potential to trigger a global nuclear conflict.
The Soviet Union wouldn't invade Europe or the western hemisphere and the US wouldn't invade Cuba or Turkey
the fact that they both had nukes, and both thought that the other would bomb them, and also the "race to space" increased tension because they both wanted to get there first, and because if you have a rocket that can reach space, then it can, by default, cross continents-so both the USA and the soviets were scared that the other would use their space technology to nuke them
Nikita Khrushchev attempted to gain a foothold in the Western Hemisphere by attempting to install nuclear missiles in Cuba. This is known as the Cuban Missile Crisis.
