men carried on fighting because of the simple fact that somethings where simply not all that bad. people misinterpret the great war hugely as all they know is one side if the story, more usual than less, people only ever know about the horrific event witch are indeed true but not only the events that went on.
sometimes men seemed to enjoy part of their time spent in war. they were not badly treated as they where well cared for and spent more than 60% of their time behind the line (not in the firing line)
they where provided with healthy balanced diets and decent food at the time.
also they felt strongly about their friendships they had formed with the other soldiers and giving up would be letting them all down witch wasn't an option.
Because there would be memories to tell the next generations knowing you had been in the war unlike if you never went to war you would feel ashamed because people expected you to. Also they would feel proud and know that they have done something to help people.
It was better than fighting out in the open where they could get hurt more easily
Some soldiers were patriotic and some were brave and adventurous .
or might if they did not follow orders then they were afraid of being punished.
why did the french and british dug up trenches? To provide cover from view & fire of the enemy.
British Trenches were waterlogged due to 2 key reasons:The geography of the trenches meant that they were largely flat and below sea level. This meant water was trapped in the trenches as they were dips in the groundThe trenches also had poor drainage systems, which did not allow water to escape
There is no answer to that question as there were thousands of soldiers in WW1 but don't know how many in trenches. Plus it depends if you ment British soldiers or soldiers as a generally.
There were electric light in German trenches in WW1 because they were more advanced and had better trenches than the British.
Reserve trenches were used as supplies for the trenches out the front. In world war one, they had come up with a technique of hiding in trenches before they fight. To do this properly, they had made them zig-zags. The trenches on the front line were where the soldiers would fight from. Reserve trenches were used in case these people had anything happen to them and they needed to use more trenches and more men. Throughout the war, the conditions of the front line trenches became worse as the communication and reserve trenches improved. I hope that helped :)

TheGermans realized that they would have to stay in hem longer so they carefully planned their trenches. The British however didn't realize this and hastily constructed their trenches. Hope that helped!
