There are many reasons: money, fleeing the law, wanting some sort of freedom (religion), wanting a better life than the one they had been born in or adventure.

Colonists left Europe to the colonies for a better life. At that time, people were much richer in the colonies than in Europe. Almost everyone owned property in the colonies, more than in England at the time. Some also left for religious freedom.
