During World War I, many persons volunteered to fight for the Triple Alliance, including some who were not in fact full citizens of either the British or French nation. Colonials (and others) were motivated by the opportunity for pay, by chances to gain personal glory of some kind, and even by loyalty to the imperial power controlling their home-lands, among many other motivations.

People Volunteered for WW1 because most of them thought it would be over by Christmas, because they thought going would make them look stronger and wearing a uniform would make them more appealing to the women.

They also joined because of the Pals Battalion, This was where Soldiers could join up in a community or a group of friends and be in the same regiment.

They also went because of the Propaganda, which was everywhere telling them to 'Do their part' and to 'Help the country.'

If they didn't go women were encouraged to go around the streets and give every man that wasn't at war a 'white feather' this was to show they were a coward for not going off to war and was part of the 'White Feather Campaign.'

Hope this helped:)
