∙ 9y agoThe senators thought that Cesar wanted to become a king and bring the Roman Republic to an end. The republic had been established some 460 tears earlier with the overthrow of the last king of Rome who was a tyrant. At that time the Romans swore they would not allow anyone to try to become a king ever again. Kings were associated with tyranny. The purpose of the establishment of the republic had been the prevention of the return of tyranny and the preservation of liberty. In the early days of the Republic a man was forced to commit suicide and another one was executed because of accusations of trying to become a king.
