During the war, many men had entered the military, and the shortage of workers meant women were offered jobs they previously would not have been- mechanics, welders, airplane builders. When the war ended, so did much of the wartime weapons production. Men were also returning from military service, and employers were required to re-hire them.

If there had never been any women to begin with? In that case, there wouldn't be a human race at all. We are complex organisms who can only reproduce sexually. If all of the women just suddenly disappeared today? Considering the scientific advances we've made, the remaining men could probably keep the human race alive by growing babies in labs, although they would need to get frozen eggs from fertiliy clinics to do so. If all the woman disappeared, heterosexual men would probably be quite frustrated. The world would also lose the perspective that women can offer. Although it's foolish to claim that all men are warlike and all women are gentle, there is a general tendency for women to be "more in touch with their feelings". Just as we wouldn't want to lose the male perspective, we wouldn't want to lose the female perspective.

The jobs were given to returning servicemen .
Because there is not enough money to support all of the people working there so the people lose their jobs.
