Most of the Native Americans in the American colonies tended to side with the English. This included the Mohawk tribe, along with the Mohicans and Mohegan. While there was no love lost between the American tribes and the Brits, the natives sided with the English because the French has befriended their tribal enemies. This included the Huron, along with Fox and Osage tribes. While the British would win the war at the end, the French and Indian armies did manage to capture several forts on American frontier land.

Most Native Americans sided with the British in the War of 1812. American settlers were encroaching on their land, and Native Americans had already been in conflict with them before the war. Why did most Indians choose to side with the Union during the Civil War?

"Most" Native Americans did not choose one side or the other. "Most" Native Americans remained neutral. There were several tribes who fought for one side or the other. Specifically the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma primarily stood with the south. The federal government had treated the Cherokee so badly under Jackson's administration, they had little other choice but to back the other side.
