on farms because of agriculture then when the industries n factorys came about a.k.a the indutrial rev. people migrated from farming and etc.. to the citys because it was faster production of goods and more jobs available.

many 'big
cities' around and if they were only the very wealthy could afford. Before 1850 (approx start of industrial revolution) people were only growing enough food to survive for themselves but as more people started to come in and more peopled were surviving illnesses that is where cities started to build and expand. The populating had gone up from then because of better medical facilities etc.
