You might need to change your O2 sensor.
If the check engine light came on there will be a code set in the ecm. Have your local auto parts store read the codes for you. The codes will help you find what is wrong. Something may have gotten disconnected when the oil change was done.
A Chevrolet Silverado that has cruise control problems might be having a problem with the part of the engine that controls speed and fuel intake. One culprit for this problem is the Speed Control Sensor that is located in the transmission. This part can be easily changed because it is more or less a probe that fits into the rear of the transmission.
There is no isolated fuse for the cruise control. It all runs off the 20A gauges fuse. If you are having trouble with the cruise control I would check the Cruise Control Module or the Cruise control Servo. What symptom is occurring?
If you're having problems with your cruise control, I would suggest that you check into your Subaru's transmission and engine error codes to see what it's returning if anything. Many times the problem with the cruise can be diagnosed by the vehicle itself. The car will not allow the cruise control to function if it knows about a specific problem, which will be given in the error codes. I don't know what year subaru you have, but look into getting both the engine (check engine light) error codes and the transmission (power light) error codes on your Legacy to see what they're returning. My speed sensor was out on my Subaru. Once I found the problem in the error codes, I swapped it out and my cruise worked just great.
There are multiple things that can go wrong with the cruise control, you need to be more specific as to the problem your car is having. While traveling at highway speeds, the cruise control suddenly deactivated itself and would not come back on.
Having a control in an experiment allows you to see what happens when no variables are changed. If you do not have a control, you do not have anything to compare your results with after changing variables of the experiment.
Maintains set speed for cruising without having to step on accelerator.
Sorry I am not sure where the computer is...but just in case you are having the same problem I had with my Liberty/Legacy GT...no cruise control working and the light on constantly...I fixed it by replacing the O2 sensor, even though the dealer wanted to sell me a computer. Good luck. :)
yeah... i have a 2007 Chrysler sebring, MY issue was a recall on the tire pressure sensors.... apparently they can cause a short circut and cause inoperative cruise control and engine stalling... Chrysler refuses to fix the car. at all.. if its not in warranty it wont get fixed for fre.. the recall number is H07 also you can go to the crysler web site to see if your vehicle is affected by this recall.
Not all detectors, mostly the lower end models will be affected by radar-based cruise control. There have been some reports of higher-end ones (think Valentine) having problems as well. Many radar producers are working to correct this problem since more car manufacturers are going to Adaptive Cruise Control.
If the cruise control is of the vacuum operated type the problem may be very low manifold vacuum until the engine gets hot. Check for proper manifold vacuum with proper vacuum gauge if the reading is lower than 20-21 at engine idle there is a vacuum leak somewhere, which is also having a negative affect on fuel economy. If no leak if found externally, you may have an engine in need of a valve job.
The cable itself could have a "kink" in it, causing it not to work properly. I suggest having it serviced.
my mechanic told me it is hard on your brakes. I suppose from having to constantly brake to slow the car down. It's like having cruise control on all the time.
