It was a Battle of Encounter, meaning it was unplanned, accidental.
The Battle of Gettysburg did not start the Gettysburg Address. The Gettysburg Address was a speech given on the field where the Battle of Gettysburg was fought, because they were creating a cemetery out of part of that field in which to inter the soldiers who fought and died there.
im not completely sure but think it is the battle of vicksburg...you prolly want to double check that..but im 85% sure:)
I am not sure about the sinifiance of it. But the battle of Gettysburg was a horrendous tragedy. it was one of the worst battles in history. Any way.... the Gettysburg address was given I believe a couple days after the battle. I might be wrong so you might want to google it. Glad I could help!!
He knew Grant would do anything to win the war.
i just learned this in my history class... he went to Gettysburg to get shoes for his troops in the confederate army. and while he was there Union troops found him and his army and thus The Battle of Gettysburg begun...
He knew Grant would do anything to win the war.
The Battle of Gettysburg is considered the turning point of the war because on May or July 1-3,1863 for the first time, the Union defeated Robert E. Lee's seemingly immortal troops. The Battle of Gettysburg was a mistake, the Union troops and Confederates accidentally ran into each other. For 1-2 days the South seemed to be winning the battles, but since Lee's shortage of cavalry (he split up his forces before the battle) he had no way of knowing Union positions, and so his assaults did not work as they were planned.
He knew Grant would do anything to win the war.

Lincoln knew that Grant would do anything to win the war.
London is full of ghosts!! Gettysburg, a well know site of battle, is swarming with ghosts of solders that died in the war. Some of the houses in the area have been claimed to be haunted. If you want to find ghosts, look at Gettysburg or some other well-known battle fields... you'll be sure to see at least some activity!!
Yes they did. Many of them joined Union skirmishers in fighting against Confederate forces which were attempting to seize the town on July 2, acting as snipers.
