Americans elected Franklin Roosevelt as president because he promised he would create programs that helped people keep from losing jobs, money, and becoming in debt. He did just that when he became president, and called it the New Deal. Some examples of the New Deal are: the WPA (the Works Progress Administration), the Social Security, the Tennessee Valley Authority (the TVA), the Civilian Conservation Corps (the CCC), and a whole lot more. He helped the U.S through the Great Depression successfully, and that is how the economy boomed once again.

∙ 12y agohe wanted to help the Americans to overcome the great depression when the current president believed in laissez faire which meant that people should look after themselves. Roosevelt wanted to change this, and people needed the help that Roosevelt was offering

∙ 14y agoThe reason why FDR was so popular that he was elected to 4 terms of office (and indeed, might have been elected to a fifth term had he not died in office during his 4th term) was that he had successfully lead America through two great crises, the Great Depression and WW II, and the American public was very grateful.
