Notorious rather than famous. It was deemed unsinkable but sank on it's maiden voyage with the loss of many lives. The shipping company treatment of the families of the crew was atrocious; they ruled that from the time the Titanic started to sink the crew were no longer in theiremploy and therefore the the crews' families were not eligible for their pay or compensation.

∙ 12y agoAt the time, it was the world's largest ship. It was at the time) a modern marvel. The captain or the ship's builder said it was unsinkable. Sadly, though, it sunk on it's first voyage, as it hit an iceberg and sunk. But if you are talking about the movie, I must agree that it was a good movie, but very predictable... :)

∙ 14y agoThey wanted to travel on it because it was the biggest and most luxurious ship of it's time. Also it had 16 watertight compartments that caused people to think that it was an unsinkable ship.
