There are ruins in various stages of decay and looting. Restoration efforts are very slow. There are sites which are worth visiting, Athens in particular where some structures are partially standing despite efforts by the irresponsible to damage them. There are other reasonably good sites in southern Greece, Turkey, Sicily and North Africa.

For medieval visit Thessaloniki (specialy the medieval churches), and the islands of Rhodes, Corfu and Crete (believe me the beaches alone are worth it :) ).
