As the book goes on Ponyboy starts to see the soc's as human beings not just as gang members. He realises that no matter where you come from as teenagers you are all faced with the same issues.

∙ 12y agoPony thought it would be better to refer to the Socs as "just guys" because they're just like everyone else; they've got feelings and all. They're not exactly all they're cracked up to be. But Randy is a good example of someone Pony;d be able to refer to as "just a guy", after his sharing of feelings with Pony.
