Lincoln was Republican so anti-Republican resentment was wide-spread throughout the post-war South.
k
The Republican governments in the south had difficulty after the Civil War because the people of the south were upset over losing the war. They resented reconstruction and the fact that they had to let go of their slaves.
The civil war was necessary because it help sort out the trouble between the north and the south. No it was not JUST about slavery.
The South and North both elected their own governments. The North had Lincoln, while the South had elected Davis.
It was all one government - the Southern states still sent representatives to Congress.
The North adn South were two countries and therefore were run by two different governments. The norths president was Abraham Lincoln and the South's was Jefferson Davis.
The southern states were more religiously orientated as well as the state governments in the south having more power wanting to control their states independently rather than abiding by the laws set by the federal governments. Hope this helped- sorry if facts are not bang on :)
No they were not, South Carolina was the first state to join the Confederacy and North Carolina was one of the last. Both states were independent from each other and had their own state governments.
