The reason Sanballat did not want to the rebuilding of Jerusalem was simply pride. His reign of terror over the Jews would come to an end and the prominent position he had occupied all those years would have to come to an end, thus joining forces with every possible groups and bodies of people to fight ridicule and break the spirit of the Jewish people.
