The Sun Dance of the Sioux tribe was a religious rite. Young warriors used the pain of having their muscles pierced to experience visions and feel closer to god, much the same reasons that modern suspension fans perform the same maneuvers. The Sioux rite was also a rite of passage - only the strongest warriors were able to last through the entire Sun Dance, and thus won great prestige with their tribe.
The Sun is revered as the highest form of Masculinity since its what gives our world life and warmth .Just as the moon is the highest revered feminine symbol .Its what keeps gravity and the tides under control and also some plant flowers only bloom under the moons light magic.

∙ 13y agoThe Shoshone Indians were Plain Indians and depended on the land and the animals for their daily living. The eagle and buffalo in particular contributed to their daily habits. The ritual is used to celebrate the perpetuity of life. The Shoshone believed in a cycle of symbolic/true death and rebirths. The Sun Dance was also representative of the connection between all entities in nature. The ritual involves sacrifice of animals and supplication.
