Student activism receives so much attention because according to human Psychology, students are assumed to be youths; and in the traditional sense of social contract, youths are supposed to be weak, obedient, yet submissive to their "elder superiors".

So it's natural that when "student youths" decide to revolt against the "elderly superiors" such as a dominant political force or economic system, society panics because "the weak" are rising up against "the dominant" and could perhaps unseat them, which society feels should not happen. Hence, all attention are focused on them because dealing with these "students" is on the top of the authority's priority list.

Watch the movie "children of the corn", then place the students in the cult childrens' perspective, then take the bankers and place them in adults' perspective and this argument should be self explanatory.
