that tea was worth literally millions of dollars. which obviously upset british. and they were already in dept from the "french Indian war". the act of throwing the tea into the Boston harbor also showed that the colonists were not afraid of revolting.

The Sugar Act was the first attempt England made to tax the colonies. The act put heavy taxes on goods that merchants imported into the colonies and it enforced harsh punishments for those who smuggled against England. In short, it hurt the colonial merchants business and crippled the economy of the colonies.
