Taxation without representation: all taxable transactions had to have taxes collected and then shipped to England for delivery to the King. Many transactions had to wait for approval from the King in order to proceed; a very slow process. And, the King gave no rights of representation to the Colonies even though he was collecting taxes from them. They also wanted to be free of British rule.

Partly because they were highly taxed by the British government, but were not represented in the British Parliament. They listed many reasons in the Declaration of Independence. The king ignored them, he did not give them the same rights as people living in England, and he paid the native Americans to kill Americans.
