They didn't do sacrifices because they felt like it! They did it for a purpose! The purpose for human sacrifice is so the blood was given to the sun god. They believed that if the sun god did not get any blood, he would not rise. Also because they thought the blood was nourishing to the gods so it would make them stronger.
