Why did the British changed Singapura to Singapore?

It was known back then that the British had only 2 places to trade, Bencoolen and Melaka, which were inconvenient for trading. Besides, Penang was not facing the Straits of Melaka and was located far away from the main trading area.

When Raffles first saw Singapore, he foresaw that Singapore will be a benefit to the British as it could protect their ships from stormy winds, besides, it was also extremely good for Chinese trade. A couple more points were that the Dutch did not occupy Singapore yet, therefore, they could avoid conflict with them. the springs in Fort Canning also helped to supply all the water needed by the men and crew.
