Best Answer

The reason the British wanted an empire was the same as every other empire: More taxes, more troops, more trade, more slaves, and more political power.

They didn't.

They just sort of acquired it as history ticked on and they became ever richer, began to dominate trade and beat their enemies.

1) Power:

Britain always wanted to be better than France and Spain. They wanted to be better, stronger and much more powerful than their enemies and by having an empire they could show this. People in Britain wanted their own rights in a world they ruled. Britain wanted to become respected and the ultimate Empire which they got.

2) Military:

Britain needed more people to fight for them so if any of the country wanted to battle Britain would always win. Britain also needed some salves to work for them because they got bigger and bigger over the time.
