They worshiped Osiris because they believed that he was the son of the sky and the earth. He was one of four children of the sky goddess, Nut, and earth god, Geb. He became ruler of the underworld when his wife reconstructed him after his brother Seth killed him, hacked him to pieces and spread him across Egypt.

Isis is a mother /wife godess. She protects people as a mother would protect her children. The Pharaohs were considered to be her children.

When her brother/husband Osiris died she gathered the pieces of his body together and bought him back to life.

The flooding of the Nile is said to be the tears that Isis shed for Osirus when he was dead. And that the flooding happens yearly in memory of the tears that Isis shed.

The flooding of the Nile (Isis' tears brings the land of Egypt back to life again.
