He became unpopular with the Irish because of the siege of drogheda and wexford. He massacred them forcing children to go to the west indies where they will all die. The royalists who supported the king don't like him because he beheaded the king. Although he wanted a democratic society his ways were often bloody and brutal. Also he banned many things like Christmas, make up, work on Sundays, swearing.

Oliver Cromwell was unpopular because in a country of some 98% Anglicans he forbad Worshipping at Anglican Altars. He was instrumental in murdering King Charles, who refused to sign away the Church,[30/1/49.] He was also responsible for plundering the ancient Anglican Church and sending its priests to jail and as slaves to the West Indies whilst keeping Anglican Bishops in prison for some 19/20 yrs. Our priests were ejected from their livings along with their families, simply turned out of doors with no means

, in many cases of sustenance.

He was cruel in many cases slaughtering the Romanist Garrison at basing House as well as letting his men murder Welsh Episcopalians after Naseby.

He taxed the poor to pay for his wars and his army and spent the time in an effort to aggrandise the English Protestants at the expense of Scotland, Wales and his own family!

Richard Cromwell, the son of Oliver Cromwell, was unpopular with the people of England because he was incapable of carrying on his father's policies. He was made Lord Protector on his father's death.

Another one of his weaknesses was that he did not have much confidence in the British army and he spent a lot of his money unwisely.
