The Tacoma Narrows Bridge failed, though, due to strong wind making it swing faster and faster (Aeroelastic flutter) until it broke into pieces. When the Tacoma Narrows Bridge came down, the authorities in San Francisco undertook a quick project to brace each end of the Golden Gate Bridge to keep it from fluttering in the wind.
