Multiple Indian tribes can be found one each side of the French and Indian War (also known as the seven years war). The Iriquois for instance supported the British almost exclusively. Most indians however assisted the French for a variety of reasons. Firstly, the French had more of a symbiotic relationship with the Indians. They trade with them frequently and had more of an amicable relationships while the English fought many wars against the Indians massacring indiscriminately (First and Second Pequot War for instance. Also the French were the first to arrive in the land that Indians controlled and they did not attack on site. Another reason was that English and Indians had strict borders whereas the French intermingled with the Indians much more and therefore were further ingrained into Indian Society. They didn't support Canadians, but the French. The reason they supported the French was that the French had been treating them with respect and lived with them since they entered "New France." The English had always treated the Native Americans with disrespect and killed them when they could.
