Best Answer

The Greek city-states in Asia Minor revolted against Persian rule. Some Greek cities outside the Empire sent armies to help the rebels. The Persians retaliated, and determined to take control of the mainland Greek city-states to stop further trouble. The wars went on for fifty years until the Persians gave up.
