The Turkish army invaded Famagusta because the Turks have no respect for other cultures, religions or history itself.

Through the centuries, Turks are and have been guilty of various counts of genocide, oppression and contempt for human rights, often denied or covered up by the corrupt goverment. Also on schools the Turks do not educate their children in the true history, instead thy twist the facts.

No other country in the world is so nationalistic as Turkey, muslim nationalistic, with a dangerous expansionistic policy.

It was a true crime of the Turkish army to invade Famagusta, and a true crime of the rest of the world to let them do so.

There are no borders in Cyprus. 37% of the land, specifically the northern part of the land are ILLEGALY occupied by the Turkish army after the turkish invasion of 1974. Years later, a political leader there self-proclaimed the occupied land as an independant nation, which is of course not true, not recognised by any country besides Turkey and illegal.

Was turkey a British colony?

NO. Turkey has consistently been an independent country, first as the Ottoman Empire and then later as the Republic of Turkey. After World War I, Britain envisioned and intended to create a small sphere of influence in southeastern Turkey, but was effectively repulsed by the Ataturk's Turkish Army in the Turkish War of Independence. However, Cyprus, which used to be an Ottoman territory and had a large Turkish minority, became a British Protectorate in 1878 and a British Colony in 1914. Cyprus became independent in 1960.

Which two groups were involved in the civil war in Cyprus?

There was no Cypriot Civil War because the force that opposed the Cypriot government was primarily a foreign power: Turkey. Certainly Turkish Cypriots helped the foreign army, but it was primarily Turkey's invasion of the island. The Turko-Cypriot Conflict was between Cyprus, ruled by the predominant Greek Orthodox Cypriot population, and the Turks of Turkey and Turkish Cypriots.

Who is Cyprus divided between?

Cyprus has been a divided nation since 1974, when the Turkish Army invaded during July and August. This happened due to a coup by extreme right-wing military officers, who overthrew the democratically-elected Government of President Makarios and imposed a military dictatorship, whose aim was to expel or exterminate the island's ethnic Turk population. Turkey then stepped in to protect the Turkish people.
