US has not sold arm directly to Iran since the revolution in 1979. All the American arms that Iran has right now have remained from the old days (Shah's time) or Iran has bought them from the black market.
There are no wars being fought in Iran currently. The US is involved in Afghanistan and drawing out of Iraq.
This is because the Iranian people were opposed to America's policies in Iran.
The US is not at war with Iran. The only war the US is involved in is Afghanistan. The US has ended their combat role in Iraq, yet still have troops stationed there. Though we are not at war with Iran, you can not say we are on "friendly" terms with their President.
The Iran-Contra Affair involved three nations: (1) the United States, (2) Iran, and (3) Nicaragua. It was a secret arrangement led by US President Ronald Reagan to sell US weapons to Iran during the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988 and use the profits from those sales to fund the Anti-Communist Contra Rebels in Nicaragua. In this way, Reagan was "officially" keeping his hands clean of the death and destruction in Nicaragua.
Iran verses Iraq with the US and other nations closely monitoring it in the Persian Gulf.
