Well they came twice actually first to take down Victoria's army of new born vampires but the Cullens already had taken them down and the second because Irena a vampire from the Denali clan told them that the Cullens had a immortal child but the child they had wasn't and no one got hurt.
They don't exactly come to the city, but the confrontation occurs in the deep forest adjoining forks.
