because they didn't have a choice or any say in whether it would be put into effect or not

This was the first time that Britain had interfeared with colonial life, before they were just left alone. It would be compareable to if you were allowed to listen to any music you wanted to, then randomly your mom went through and removed all the songs she didn't like while you where at school, Then she made you pay her to give them back, or something like that.
