German tribes immigrated to Rome under pressure from the Huns. Rome agreed to allow their immigration and to participate in the Roman economy if they came unarmed. This was an unrealistic requirement as most of the immigrants where displaced forcibly and feared for their lives. Eventually their open boarders policy became their downfall. They did not invade, they were invited by Rome.

It was Attila. He did not actually invade Rome. He carried out three raids on the eastern part of the Roman Empire. He tried to invade Gaul, in the western part of the Roman Empire, but was defeated in a big battle. Finally he invaded Italy, also in the western part of the empire, but had to give the invasion up.
