The Ku Klux Klan of the 1st era (ie, 1860's-1870's) did not have a certain color robe. However, in the 2nd ear (1915-1939, which includes the HUGE wave of the Klan during the 20's), they all had White robes, with the exception of some officers. This was done for 2 reasons.

1. The book 'The Clansman' (which was later made into the movie 'Birth Of A Nation', which helped fuel the Ku Klux Klan movement) spoke of Clansman (Klansman) who wore white robes, which of course were also a color of religious robes at the time, thus, linking them to heroism and Christianity.

2. White is the color of purity and with the Klan being for '100% Americanism, womanhood, and racial purity', it was an obvious choice.

Today, White is still used for 'Knights', or 'ordinary' members and non-officers. However, for many officers (such as Grand Dragons, Knighthawks, etc), they often wear colored robes to show their designated rank.

No, because wearing white robes meant that their skin was white and they were completely against African Americans (or blacks). If they wore black robes then it would show that they were supporting African Americans.

Where the Ku Klux Klan in support of reconstruction of the south?

Good grief, no. They wanted the civil war to keep going and were against the freedom of the slaves. That's why they formed. They were suppose to be the ghosts of Confederated dead ( this is why they wear white) and rode at night. They were doing everything they could to scare and intimate the former slaves.

How bad was the Ku Klux Klan?

the ku klux klan was a really racist group of sick minded people. There is actually a song about them that goes to the tune of Iron Man describing just how they went about things and how they thought about themselves and what they were like. Its quite racist, and im not racist but my friend kept singing this song and it got stuck in my head, but it really describes quite well what they were like: I am grand wizard man, Born leader of the Ku Klux Klan, I wear pointy hats, Killing f r i e k i n g n i g g e r s with baseball bats. Infact the Ku Klux Klan are still around in parts of America today and they will still kill black people if they can get away with it but there arent many left today, especially compared to the numbers that used to make up the KKK.

If you mean how do they hide their identity from the public- The Klu Klux Klan were a national group, they made a decision together to only show themselves in major occasions.
