Life could only get better. It gave some relief from the grinding poverty they suffered. It is obvious to any student of history and observer of human nature that if the ruling group treads on people hard enough they will finally revolt because they were given no choice. all revolutions begin that way. Communist uprisings like the Chinese example are no different. Whatever you think of communism or revolutions they would not have occured in the first place if the populace had been well treated. Your question is a good example of how politically naive and downtrodden peasants will align themselves to a group that promises better.
because under communism everyone is equal, therefore they would no longer be peasants.
This isn't the answer, but it probably has something to do with Mao Zedong being the leader of the Chinese Communist party (Maoism) and Sun Yatsen then Jiang Jieshi the Nationalist leader. :)
The Chinese peasants supported the communists because there current government and leader Jiang did not do anything to help them, and they thought the communists would give them a better life.
Peasants
Answer this question… The communists won support from peasants in the countryside
Communists
By encouraging each peasant to work the land independently Rebuttal: The above answer is a bit misleading. China (like Japan) was still a feudal society until the early 1900s. Chinese peasants were at the bottom of the social scale, and would have welcomed the Communists' more egalitarian view of society. However, under communism, agriculture was collectivised, so peasant farming was not truly "independent" (as suggested above. Once the Nationalist Chiang Kai Shek was deposed by Mao Tse Tung (Zedong), Mao's crazy economic policies caused great hardships. His "Great Leap Forward" was disastrous exercise that resulted in the starvation of millions of peasants.

Peasants in China supported the Communist Party because it promised land redistribution and social equality, addressing issues of oppression and poverty they faced under previous regimes. The Communist Party also mobilized peasants in rural areas, providing them with a sense of power and empowerment.
The reforms of Mao Zedong had a greater appeal to peasants because he divided the land that the Communists won among the local farmers. Many peasants threw their support to the Chinese Communist Party because most peasants believed that Jiang was doing little to improve their lives.
