Brazil built Brasília, a new capital city, in the interior of the country to encourage people to move away from the coastal cities and populate the central region. This was part of the government's strategy to promote development and decentralize the population distribution in Brazil.
Because all of Brazil's major cities were in the coast, and the government was trying to get people to move out of the coast and into brazil, so they built brazilia, and made it our capital
Brazil wanted to move its capital to a more central location. So a new city was built in honor of Brazil. It was named Brasilia.
The country of Brazil moved its capital to the highlands as a defensive of move. When the capital was on the coastline it was thought to be involved voluble to a sea attack.
It was in April 21st, 1960. Moving the capital to the center of Brazil was already planned since Brazil's Constitution of 1891, but it has been postponed since then. Among the reasons were higher protection from war and an epidemic happening in Rio de Janeiro. However, Juscelino Kubitschek, president from 1956 to 1961, promised in his campaign to move the capital city, even though the reasons for it had no meaning at all that time, simply because it was in the Constitution. Being elected, he proceeded to move the capital city in 1960, alledging the new place had lots of natural resources to be explored.
