Egypt believed that it was protected by the Sahara in the west, the Sinai Peninsula Desert in the east, the Mediterranean Sea in the north, and the vassal state of Kush in the south. Therefore, they thought that if anyone were to invade, they would have warning and could array their defenses.
Of course, these barriers did not save Egypt when it was invaded by the Hyksos, the Nubian insurrection and occupation, and the invasions of the Lydians, Libyans, Persians, Macedonian Greeks, Romans, Arabs, Turks, British, and Israelis.
