Slavery began thousands of years ago in the ancient world. Men who were not killed in battle were taken as slaves. Roman gladiators were slaves taken in battles. Women and children often came from villages and places that were invaded. It was part of war. Slaves were bought and sold across cultures and there were pirates that sold people. Slavery still exists today.
