Socrates wrote a book and it promoted individual thought process and thinking for yourself instead of just going along with that government views and his book was thought to corrupt children. Because of his promotion of thinking for yourself and being different he was going to be killed and (I have heard the ending both way so I will just say the two) 1. He took his life into his own hands by drinking hemlock milk, which is highly poisonous. or 2. he was forced to drink hemlock milk by the authorities to kill him so he could no longer "corrupt the youth" like they thought he was doing.

hope that helps ;)
