Advances in technology: Metallic cartridges (instead of muzzle loading rifles); the gas powered engines. Tanks, Warships, Airplanes, Submarines. These innovations replaced horses, wagons, and sailing ships.
During the 1900s the ways in which war was fought changed in profound ways. Weapons chanced from mainly gunfire to the inclusion of bombs, automated weapons and chemical warfare. Tactics changed from the mainly boots on ground action to include aerial assaults, land mines and the use of tanks. The actual movements and provisioning of armies changed, incorporating new technology such as transport vehicles, supply planes and ships to make the movement and establishment of troops more efficient.
Machinery and Aircraft made a major change on how the war was fought. It was the end of the Battleship and the start of the Aircraft Carrier era. Radar and improved Communications played a major role in the war.
Air warfare was certainly a major advancement in World War 2, with the British RAF developing radars during the middle of the war. This enabled the RAF to have a major foothold in air warfare over the Axis forces. Many weapons that were developed during the wars were used in conflicts such as Vietnam - for example, the Springfield bolt-action sniper rifle and the M1 Garand semi-automatic rifle were both used in the Vietnamese war. To a certain extent, a lot of tactics used today come from the World Wars, but this is up for discussion.

it depends on what you are referring to. It changed the economy of the countries involved, it changed the population numbers due to the Holocaust and of course war casualties, it brought dictators and "mad men" to international view (Mousillini, Hitler etc...).
World War 2 changed life on the war front due to the rationing imposed on the people. Fortunately, this rationing was not very severe, and thus created more of an inconvenience than any real issues.
