Say you are an organised, deadly orientated individual who will complete all work on time and anything promised will be fulfilled to ones own best ability. that you are very a focused, driven person that has a careful eye for details and errors and can instantly spot them. Working as an administrative assistant provides me with personal rewards in the way of accomplishing tasks and duties that are necessary for the department to function efficiently. If I can assist someone with navigating through the organization, providing meaningful answers to the numerous questions, and ensuring that details are taken care of, than I am within my value system, one being; good steward.
As an AA, I am adding value, in that the routine tasks are "off the manger's tasks list." Interruptions are minimized and I can feel confident in answering questions on my manger's behalf since I know the role and what is going on (I see the big picture).
I enjoy the variety of the work, diversity of the people who I interact with on a daily weekly or monthly basis. Also, because I am detail / process oriented I find that as an administrative assistant I am able to use these skills. That's what we do as administrative assistants, we make life better/easier/more efficient, etc. for everyone. (e.g. coworkers, managers, staff, outside personnel, vendors, Board members, parents, student, etc.)
A person may become an administrative assistant because they enjoy answering phone calls. They may also enjoy organization and may have skills in typing.
because you like the idea of doing paperwork, talking to customers on the telephone and face-to-face.

What are some of the short and long terms of a personal or administrative assistant?
It's not that one career is better than the other, it's a matter of which one satisfies your personal overall career goals and objectives. Which ever you choose, it should be something you have a passion for. In other words, a passion for what you do and the benefit it brings others as well as yourself. Never choose a career solely based on salary. You should also be concerned with job satisfaction.
People choose their careers for different reasons. Some choose their career for money while others have a passion for what they are doing.
