I don't know where you got the idea that people don't live on the Philippine islands because they do. I know, I've been there. In World War 2 Japan invaded there and General Macarthur went back to liberate the people of the Philippines from the Japanese. Check wikipedia for Manilla, the capitol of the Philippines.
