They are so very small, that they can not be seen even with the strongest microscope. And long ago, microscopes were very simple compared to days'. Only when things didn't add up, did they begin to think that there must be other things out there. The word means that these are somethings that can not be cut. But even now we know that has changed. (atomic weapons are based on 'cutting' or splitting atoms). Here is a link that may help: http://atomictimeline.net/index.php

What is the half lie of a radioisotope?

I assume you mean "half life". That means, how long does it take for half of the atoms in a sample to decay.

How long does it take for a poleshift to complete?

We do not know, but it is possible that we may shortly (?) know if present trends continue. We know it is not a long time in geological terms.

How long did it take scientists to figure out everything we know about atoms?

How does science know how long it takes for any half life decay to occur?

A scientist will take an known amount of the isotope in question and measure how much radiation that mass produces over a fixed period. Using Avogadro's constant you can work out how may atoms are present in that mass and having measures the radiation you know how many have decayed over that period. From this you can work out how long it will take for 1/2 the atoms in that mass to decay - the half life of the isotope.

How do scientist use the rate at which radioactive decay in rocks?

they measure how long it takes for half of its unstable molecules to turn to more stable atoms, a half life

Why is it important to know how long earthquakes last for?

It is important to known how long an earthquake will last so that scientist will know if there will be a bigger one. The bigger earthquakes are called main-shock.

Was Einstein an atomic scientist?

Einstein was an atomic scientist inasmuch as he advanced the field of atom theory. His paper on "Brownian Motion" was one of the first to describe the free flowing motion of atoms in space. This question suffers from a question of intent. The short and long of it is yes, Einstein was a research theorthetical atomic scientist.
