The only effect of TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) is to stimulate the thyroid gland tissue to produce thyroxine. If there is no longer a thyroid gland to stimulate, the TSH is produced in great abundance, but with no effect.

∙ 13y agoBecause propylthiouracil is an anti-thyroid drug used to treat hyperthyroidism by decreasing the amount of hormone produced by the thyroid gland and both of these rats had the thyroid gland removed so there is nothing for the propythiouracil to fight against.

∙ 11y agoBecause the hormone only affects the thyroid. If the thyroid has been removed, then the hormone has nothing to stimulate.
