Because they were being paid no matter what, they slacked off
There was a decline in availability of indentured servants from England. The indentured servants from England weren't good workers. Indentured servitude was outlawed in the colonies.
Landowners would prefer slaves over indentured servants because slaves were seen as a permanent source of labor without a time limit on their service, while indentured servants had contracts that ended after a specific period. Slaves were also considered property that could be bought and sold, providing the landowner with greater control. Additionally, the system of slavery was based on race and allowed for the perpetuation of wealth and power within a specific group.
The headright system was good for people who became indentured servants because it offered them the opportunity to acquire land upon completing their term of service. This provided them with a pathway to eventually attain economic independence and security after fulfilling their obligations as indentured servants.
Slavery developed in the South because the ground was for farming. Soil was very good for farming unlike many places in the North. Since farming was very good to do they needed a laborers. Slaves had to come to farm. people became indentured servants, which are servants that volunteer to work for seven years for free passage contract labor. soon they had slaves and the slaves became to work for them for life so the indentured slaves weren't needed anymore and the slaves became very valuable to the slave owners

First of all indentured people were NOT Slaves. They were people who signed a contract for 7 years to work off the cost spent for them to come to the colonies ( actually there are indentured servants still today). A slave was a human who was bought and sold. They had no say in their life, they were in chains, they had their identity taken from them, they were not free to leave or decide any thing about how they spent their life. The indentured servant was a free white who did decide how to live their life.
it as good because it didnt help the slaves it made them have hardships and their economy went down
