Catholics do not believe in multiple gods. Catholicism is Christianity as founded by Our Blessed Lord, Jesus Christ, before any "denominations" came on the scene. Schisms in the Church over the past 2000 years is a different topic altogether. The majority of claims attributing to multiple deity worship within Catholicism is due to ignorance. Catholicism believes in a Trinitarian God consisting of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. There is no other God. Prayers are always "to" God. Catholics are often misunderstood with statues and relics and are believed to pray to them. However, asking for the intercessory prayers from those who have passed before us does not equal prayer the worship due to God alone. Who better to ask to pray to join in prayer than those we believe already in eternal beatification with God?
