Christians believe that Jesus is God; one of the three persons making up the trinity.
That said, calling her "mother of God" has certain unfortunate implications, namely that she preceded and is somehow superior to God. I'm not saying that all Catholics believe this, of course, or even that most do.

The fact that she was the mother of God in no way implies that she preceded Him or created Him.
