Because they were told to believe it. Parents teach children things they need to know. Many tell children about the Tooth Fairy and the children believe it. They also tell children about Santa Claus and the children believe it. Until one day when they learn that there is no Tooth Fairy or Santa Claus. This leaves a big hole in a young child's heart. This is when Christian parents tell their children about Jesus and God. Why a child will believe this when they've just learned they've been duped about Santa and the Tooth Fairy I'll never understand.

Opinion

Christians believe Jesus is the son of God because:

Jesus himself did not deny it:

Mat 16:16 Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Mat 16:17 Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

Demons recognised it:

Mat 8:29 And suddenly they cried out, saying, "What have we to do with You, Jesus, You Son of God? Have You come here to torment us before the time?"

His disciples said it:

Mat 14:33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, "Truly You are the Son of God."

The gospel writers acknowledged it:

Joh 20:31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

The early Christians believed it:

Act 9:20 Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God.

Act 8:37 Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."

1Jn 4:15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God.

Quite simply: Because he said he was, and proved it rather well with his faultless conduct, ageless wisdom, and resurrection.

Miracles can be discounted since God isn't the only one who can do miracles.

Opinion

Actually, mircales are incredibly important - for what is the resurrection apart from Christ's greatest miracle?

In John's gospel Jesus says:

"...do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'? If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him."

In John's account, also, he chooses some of these miracles and calls them 'signs' - signs of who Jesus actually is, and makes it crystal clear why he has done so:

"Jesus performed many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." [John 20: 30-31]

So the answer to the question is that Christians believe Jesus is not a subservient 'Son' of God, but God the Son, beiing the personification of God in human form, and having the full rights and authority of his Father. This is because Jesus claimed to be so, annd backed up his claims without doubt, by his teaching, behaviour, actions, wisdom and his miracles.

Because Jesus led a perfect life; he never sinned. He was all human and all spirit. He was the only one who fit all of the requirements for the Messiah. He knew the temptation of sin, though he never physically sinned.

Christians believe that God alone controls the giving and taking of life. (That's why so many find themselves in pro-life organizations.) They believe that the Passover resurrection in Israel nearly 2000 years ago was God's stamp of approval on the man from Galilee who said He was God's Son, who did unprecedented miracles, who spoke with unprecedented authority, and who befriended all mankind (St, John 15:13) when He willingly submitted to His undeserved execution. The resurrection of Jesus is a fundamental tenet of Christianity and His divinity largely rests upon it.

Opinion

Because all the prophecies in the Old Testament came true as Jesus progressed through his life.

Christians think that Jesus is God because The Bible says that the Father, Son, and Spirit (or Holy Ghost) are One. Christians call Jesus, Jesus Christ because Jesus was His earthly name, but Christ is His Heavenly name. The Bible says that Jesus was God in earthly form. Christians believe Jesus was sent to save the world from sin and give us a chance at Heaven.

Mostly because he said he was, he fulfilled over 360 prophecies, performed many miracles including healings and resurrections, predicted his own death and resurrection, was found to be totally faultless in every major court of law of the time, spoke words of wisdom which remain true to this day, and was the only perfect man to ever walk the earth. Not to mention that God himself said "This is my son" in front of hundreds of witnesses from different backgrounds. That kind of endorsement tends to be pretty effective.
