We use a unique and creative advent calendar to count down the days until Christmas. It's has mittens and stockings that are strung on a ribbon with tiny clothespins. The kids love it and it makes for a great Christmas decoration as well. See the link below for a picture.
Advent, the four Sundays before Christmas are considered a "little Lent". We basically take the same penitential stance during Advent as in Lent, the practices are very similar. It is the fast before the feast. Fasting is a good way to begin. Although the U.S. Bishops currently have a temporary indult freeing us from the usual Friday abstinence outside of Lent IF we give up something else. Nevertheless, the Bishops, and the Church still recommend the traditional Friday abstinence throughout the year, and Advent, the beginning of the Church year, is an excellent place to start, to reincorporate this traditional Catholic practice back into our spiritual lives. At the links below you may find out many other specific practices you may incorporate into your spiritual life for Advent. But remember that the biggest ones are regular attendance at Mass, and regular, weekly confession.
In the church I go to we do nothing. Advent is something made up by man. Jesus left the church three things to do:
1. Make disciples - Mat 28:19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations..........
2. Baptize disciples - Matt 28:19........... baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
3. Take bread and wine when meeting together. - 1Co 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
by putting up your christmas trees and decorating your house
Do small little acts of kindness to cleanse our heart before Jesus comes.
Advent is the time were Christians celebrate Christ's Coming, and await His Second Coming.
they light candles and prayed
Because it Is The Birth Of Jesus
The only reason why we as catholics or Christians celebrate advent is because we are waiting for the preparation for Christ to be born so every week we light up one candle for four weeks.
Not much as Catholics are Christians.
No, most Christian religions have some sort of Advent observation. My church is not Catholic but we light the Advent Candles and celebrate the theme of each week in Advent (Peace, Hope, Joy, and I forget the fourth one.)

Primarily Catholics celebrate Sunday by assisting at Mass.
Yes, Catholics do celebrate Mother's Day each year. Catholics celebrate every holiday that other people celebrate such as Thanksgiving and 4th of July.
