Because the Hebrew calender follows a lunar cycle.
Judaism uses lunar and solar together. They add an occasional leap-month to reconcile it to the solar calendar. Islam uses the lunar calendar exclusively. Druids use the Lunar calendar; and Christians use the Lunar calendar to calculate Easter every year. Some Satanists and Pagans use the Lunar Calendar. In fact the Lunar calendar is used by everyone to some degree.
As far as I know, all calendars that use lunar cycles start their months with the new moon.
Orthodox Easter is the date when Eastern Orthodox Christians throughout the world celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. This year, Orthodox Easter is on 27 April 2008, according to the Julian Calendar. The Western Christians (Catholics and Protestants) now use the Gregorian Calendar to calculate their Easter. Orthodox Easter is also known as 'Pascha' in Greek, and has continued to be celebrated in the same way by Orthodox Christians for over 2,000 years.
The Greeks celebrated Easter on March 23, 2008. They follow the Orthodox Christian tradition and use the Julian calendar to determine the date of Easter.
The orthodox Easter is celebrated on different dates as Easter in Australia because the orthodox religion follows the Jewish. This is the Sunday after the Jewish Passover and when the hours in the day are equal to the hours of the night called the "Equlbruim". The Sunday ( a week after the Jewish Passover) is called Palm Sunday for the Orthodox Christians. The Orthodox Christians use this tradition because that is the way it hs been instructed in the Bible.
i want to use lunar magic but i have no idea how!!!!!!
The Easter or Pascha date is determined by four main factors. The first two have been established by Apostolic canon, making them binding, and the last two have been established by church tradition. The history of determining Easter dates has been complex and sometimes controversial, but the following pre-conditions provide a general summary. The Easter date is set according to the Julian or Old Calendar and this date must be: 1) after the Vernal (Spring) Equinox, and 2) after the Jewish Passover, and 3) with the first full moon in Spring, and 4) on a Sunday after 21 March.
Holy Thursday is always three days before Easter. Easter is calculated to follow Passover which is based on the lunar calendar. In 2009, Easter will be on Sunday, April 12 and Holy Thursday will be on Thursday, April 9. Catholics and most Protestants use the new Gregorian calendar decreed by Pope Gregory XIII in 1582 to calculate the date of Easter. The time of Easter is based on the cycles of the moon, the equinox, and seasons and things in nature. In simple (?) terms Easter occurs on the first Sunday following the first full moon that occurs on or after the day of the vernal equinox (the first day of spring). In 2009 the vernal equinox will be on Friday, March 20. The first full moon after that will be Thursday, April 9. Thus, Easter will be on Sunday, April 12 and Holy Thursday will be on Thursday, April 9.
I want to see the lunar eclipse tonight.
the lunar cycle takes about four weeks
Although Christians use Easter as a ceremony of "spiritual" rebirth the festival was originally a vernal equinox celebration of Northern European peoples to celebrate the return of life to the world after winter. The fertility symbols of eggs and rabbits were used as symbols of fecundity in these rites. They used the name or avvarient of Ä’ostre or Ostara. The Christians borrowed the time of year, name and symbols of the old festival.
Not all Christians use a rosary but many Roman Catholic Christians do.
